Aprašymas

The Routledge Handbook of Language Awareness provides an informative overview of the broad field of language awareness. It contains a collection of state-of-the-art reviews of both established themes and new directions, authored and edited by experts in the field. This second edition has been substantially revised and updated to include coverage of CLA and CLMA (Critical Language Awareness and Critical Multilingual Language Awareness) perspectives and Intercultural Citizenship, as well as digital learning technologies and artificial intelligence in education.

The handbook is divided into three parts that aim at reflecting the engaging diversity of language awareness activity and perspectives. Part One focuses on language teaching and teachers: for example, the teaching of reading and writing, and of listening and speaking, critical literacy, critical multilingual language awareness, and the education of deaf children. Part Two contains chapters on language learning and learners, including topics such as language learner beliefs, social media, digital literacies and study abroad. Part Three extends to a variety of additional contexts, applications and perspectives: for example, folk linguistics, language change, multimodality, multilingual organisations, leadership, and dementia. In their introductory chapter, the editors provide valuable background to the language awareness field along with their summary of the chapters and issues covered. Further reading suggestions are included at the end of each chapter.

This handbook is the ideal resource for graduate students and researchers interested and/or working in the areas of language awareness within applied linguistics, sociolinguistics and indeed across the wider spectrum of language and communication. It is also a resource for language and literacy education professionals.
